Our team participated in the 2022 edition of Autonomy 2022 in Paris, the trade show dedicated to sustainable mobility and innovations. Here are our takeaways from the event.

At Lyft Urban Solutions, we believe tomorrow’s world starts today. We also know it’s essential to work together, hand in hand, to improve the future of transport. With this in mind, our Lyft Urban Solutions team arrived in Paris March 16 and 17, 2022, to participate in Autonomy’s 6th edition.

Autonomy Paris is one of the most important global business gatherings in the transport sector, bringing together many cities and industry players with a shared goal: to improve the future of the world’s mobility and urban transport. This global trade show on sustainable mobility showcases the latest market trends, solutions, and innovations, all while emphasizing sustainable development for clean cities and healthy people.

Here are some of our team’s key takeaways:

Overall, the 2022 edition of Autonomy Paris was a chance to discuss industry challenges and highlight the importance of integrating sustainable development into mobility. The fair also provided an opportunity for participants to share knowledge and innovations and learn more about the characteristics of sustainable mobility — which is a vision that Lyft Urban Solutions strongly believes in, as indicated by our becoming a signatory of a shared micromobility pledge to promote sustainable and livable cities

At the heart of the event’s discussions were issues including:How to make mobility more sustainable? How to reduce C02 emissions related to transport? Europe, as well as the rest of the world, has implemented goals related to reducing greenhouse gas emissions with the goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2050. In order to meet these objectives, new sustainable solutions are being introduced to the transport industry, which were showcased at the Autonomy event.

MaaS and electric vehicles for cleaner cities

One such concept is the emergence of Maas (mobility as a service). More and more cities are putting in place transit apps allowing access to diverse transport options, which gives users the opportunity to plan their itineraries and daily trips simply and easily without having to use different apps. In a way, this allows commuters to be presented with all the transport options at their disposal and might encourages them to use more public and shared transit.

We also notice a strong and growing demand for electric vehicles on the market, especially electric bikes. More and more cities with bike share solutions wish to integrate e-bikes into their fleets. In fact, e-bikes can propose a sustainable alternative to car use because e-bikes allow for longer travel distances, quickly. Therefore, they are growing in popularity among city-dwellers. Let’s remember that more than 14 million trips worldwide have been taken on Lyft Urban Solutions e-bikes so far!

From multimodality to mobility hubs

Multimodality.jpg (740 KB)

Multimodality has been put forward by many industry players as the trendy sustainable solution of the moment. It consists of offering the public multiple urban transit solutions that allow users to easily complete a trip using various transport methods, such as walking, biking, taking the bus or subway. This is made possible thanks to the creation of mobility hubs, where multiple modes of transport are available.

Lyft Urban Solutions is also developing this idea. By strategically placing our self-service smart stations in proximity to bus stops, subways, or train stations, we encourage multimodality and create mobility hubs that propose bike share as first and last mile options, favouring eco-friendly urban transit. But our vision of multimodality doesn’t stop there! At Lyft Urban Solutions, we've also developed a multimodal solution. This docking and charging Smart Station can welcome our bikes and e-bikes, as well as electric scooters. And our vision goes even further, these stations will eventually offer the possibility of charging electric vehicles.

Mobility for smarter cities

In addition to highlighting sustainable micromobility solutions and active and/ or shared mobility solutions, many other subjects were debated at the Autonomy fair. Indeed, beyond making mobility more sustainable, it's also about making it safer, more efficient and more practical to improve the experience and security of users and to make cities more intelligent and dynamic.

Numerous discussions were held on topics such as user data management and protection; fleet management (especially self-service bike and scooter fleets); integrating artificial intelligence into mobility services; developing urban transport infrastructure; and improving the safety of public and shared transit users. All of these topics have created new challenges. To respond to these new factors, industry players are continuously developing innovations, each one better than the last.

Thank you to Autonomy Paris for organizing this event and allowing the industry to bring much-needed sustainable change to the world!
