Bicimad to expand beyond the city of Madrid

Madrid’s City Council has announced exciting plans to extend the city’s popular ebike fleet to the neighbouring municipality of Pozuelo de Alarcón. After a successful equipment upgrade in 2023, Bicimad now boasts an impressive fleet of 7,736 ebikes and 630 charging stations across all 21 districts of Madrid. The expansion of the program to Pozuelo de Alarcón marks an important milestone in making bikeshare a regional transportation option and we look forward to continuing to support this type of growth in the program’s future.

Bikeshare Highlights from Around the World

• ?? ECOBICI marked its 15th anniversary with remarkable milestones. In 2024 alone, the system recorded over 22 million trips, with a daily average of 71,000 rides. This represents an 83% year-over-year ridership increase.
• ?? The newly launched Bizi electric bikeshare system in Zaragoza is off to an unprecedented start. With over 12,800 users in its first day of operation and 20,000 trips in its inaugural month, the city has seen a 20% increase in ridership on its cycling lanes.
• ?? Toronto Parking Authority unveiled impressive Bike Share Toronto results, with a 23% increase in overall ridership and a 145% year-over-year ebikes ridership increase. The system boasts over 165,000 new riders in 2024.
• ?? To boost ebike availability and minimize battery swaps, BIXI is adding charging stations in Montreal.
• ?? New York City’s Department of Transportation began to solicit community input for station locations in Citi Bike’s upcoming expansion areas. The 250 new stations will bring Citi Bike service to another 900,000 New Yorkers and increase the system’s footprint to more than 2,400 stations.
• ?? In San Francisco, the Bay Wheels system recorded an impressive 246,800 rides in February alone, marking a 21% year-over-year ridership increase. Notably, 78% of these rides – over 192,000 – were taken on the system’s e-bikes
