Smart City USA 2025: Lyft Urban Solutions shares an inside look at Citi Bike NYC
The LUS team participated in the Smart City Expo USA in New York City, sharing with attendees the experience of Citi Bike, one of the world’s largest and most iconic bikeshare systems. During the keynote discussion, Citi Bike General Manager, Patrick Knoth, and LUS Policy Director, Miller Nuttle, pulled back the curtain on Citi Bike operations, highlighting how LUS operational tools have enabled a 152% increase in ridership since Lyft took over Citi Bike operations in 2018. From expanding ebike infrastructure and tackling policy hurdles to building strong public-private partnerships, the discussion offered a powerful look at what it takes to manage one of the largest station-based bikeshare programs in the world.
The European Shared Mobility Index is out
As reported in Fluctuo’s European Shared Mobility Index Annual Review, station-based bikeshare made up 35% of all shared micromobility trips in 2024 in Europe, a 10% year-over-year increase. The 2024 report provides valuable insights into the latest trends, and data shaping the shared micromobility landscape across Europe. Bikeshare highlights from around the world
- 🇪🇸 In Madrid, the Bicimad fully-electric system recorded 1.7 million trips in January and February 2025, a 5.11% increase over the same period in 2024, which was already the best year in the system’s history. It looks like 2025 is shaping up to be a record-breaking year for Bicimad!
- 🇲🇽 In Guadalajara, BKT Bici Pública installed 8 new stations in the MiBici system. System station expansion has supported growing gender parity in ridership, with 33% of program users now identifying as women.
- 🇺🇸 In Fort Worth, Texas, the Trinity Metro bikeshare program expanded its network with 20 new electric and solar-powered stations, an effort aimed to boost operational efficiency and improve ebike availability across the system.
- 🇺🇸 In Chattanooga, Tennessee, following the successful docked escooter pilot program integrated into the Bike Chattanooga fleet, the City announced plans to add more escooters to meet growing rider demand.
