Fully electric bikeshare system touching down in Zaragoza, Spain!

In partnership with the City of Zaragoza and Serveo, Lyft Urban Solutions is excited to announce the launch of the public Bizi bikeshare system in Zaragoza, Spain. 

The Bizi system will feature a fleet of 2,500 electric bikes, deployed across a network of 276 stations, 207 of which will provide in-dock charging capabilities. Cities with expanded ebike fleets have dramatic increases in ridership. For example, ebike rides in Madrid have risen by 95% since the new all-electric fleet hit the streets. Grid-connected charging stations will ensure ebikes are ready for riders and that operational vans are not needed for battery swapping, reducing the environmental footprint of the program.  

Lyft Urban Solutions will provide the hardware and software to enable the Bizi system, and  Serveo, a leader in facilities management services, will provide operations. Bizi builds upon the success that Lyft Urban Solutions and Serveo have had in Spain where they partner to deliver robust bike share programs in Barcelona, Madrid, Valladolid, and La Coruña. This new system upgrades the previous one that was founded in 2008.

The Zaragoza bikeshare system offers Lyft Urban Solutions’ best-in-class electric bikes to locals and visitors. This modern, eco-friendly option gives everyone access to a health-conscious transit option in a vibrant urban setting. 

Once riders arrive at their destination, they will be able to secure their ebike at one of our Lyft Urban Solutions Smart Stations. The quick, automatic charging process ensures ebikes are always ready for the city’s growing customer base. Riders also have access to a brand-new mobile app, which integrates cutting-edge technology allowing users to locate & unlock bikes, further enhancing the user experience.

With cutting-edge operations technology that delivers battery, vehicle, and network health notifications to operators in real time, Zaragoza will enjoy a simplified, more efficient experience.

This new Zaragoza system represents continued growth and innovation on multiple fronts for Lyft Urban Solutions. It’s our sixth bikeshare solution to launch in Spain, joining some of the world’s most admired urban mobility hubs. It’s also the sixth fully electric fleet we’ve deployed alongside Quebec City, Dubai, Medina, Austin, and Madrid. 

This initiative aligns with the Zaragoza City Council's goal of encouraging a transition from private car usage to public transportation, aiming to lower pollutant emissions and enhance air quality across the city.
