Lyft Urban Solutions and Serco to deliver the next chapter of Santander Cycles in London, UK
Transport for London (TfL) has awarded Lyft Urban Solutions and Serco a new 10-year, £220 million contract to deliver the next chapter of Santander Cycles. This partnership will bring London cyclists the world’s most advanced bikeshare technology, building on more than 142 million rides delivered since 2010. Key upgrades include a redesigned mobile app, in-dock charging infrastructure, a zero-emission operational fleet, and new customer terminals, enhancing the rider experience across 12,500 bikes and 820 stations.
Bikeshare highlights from around the world
- 🇲🇽 Mexico City’s Ecobici is launching a major expansion this year, extending service to the north, south, and east of the city. By 2027, the system will add 20,000 bikes, aiming to make cycling a core mobility option and reach more neighborhoods across the capital.
- 🇪🇸 This year, Bicimad is set to expand beyond Madrid. The city’s urban planning delegate, Borja Carabante, confirmed that blue electric bikes will arrive in Pozuelo de Alarcón next spring as part of the 2026 expansion.
- 🇨🇦 BIXI set a new record in 2025, with over 14.5 million rides across its 13-city network, marking a 9% increase from the previous year. Congratulations BIXI!
- 🇨🇦 In 2025, Bike Share Toronto reached a milestone with the launch of its 1,000th station, further expanding access to convenient and sustainable cycling across the city.
- 🇺🇸 At the end of last year, Bay Wheels reached a new milestone, surpassing 4 million rides in San Francisco!
