Lyft Urban Solutions is proud to announce its entry in Texas with the deployment of a modern and innovative bike-sharing solution in Austin. The project launched in July 2024 and will be completed in early fall 2024.
Operated by CapMetro, Austin’s public transportation agency, the new all-electric system includes an initial fleet of 494 E-FIT e-bikes and 76 stations. This initiative is part of the city's commitment to promoting sustainable and accessible mobility solutions.
With an ambitious $20.6 million expansion plan, the city also intends to triple the size of its bike-sharing fleet over the next five years, bringing the total number to more than 1,800 e-bikes.
A modernized, 100% electric solution
This new generation of bikes consists of a 100% electric fleet of our very own E-FITs. Known for being fast and convenient, our smart electric bikes are perfectly adapted for daily commutes. Indeed, this electric pedal-assist bike has an autonomy range of up to 43 miles (70 km) and its central motor can propel riders up to 20 mph (32 km/h).
This project demonstrates the growth of electric bikes in bike-sharing systems around the world, and reflects the global trend towards electrifying mobility. In fact, e-bikes are an efficient alternative, enabling users to get around quickly, and with a minimal effort.
Austin commits to sustainable mobility
The city has been awarded an $11.3 million grant from the Transportation Alternative Set-Aside (TASA) program to implement the new system. The purpose of the grant is to promote the development of sustainable urban infrastructure to encourage active, environmentally-friendly mobility.
We're delighted to be working with CapMetro to deploy the new solution, contributing to the development of Austin's urban mobility infrastructure!
