Târgu Mureș, Romania, launches its first bikeshare system

The Romanian city of Târgu Mureș is entering a new chapter in urban mobility with the launch of its very first bikesharing system, Velo Târgu Mureș.

Deployed in collaboration with our local operating partner SUMS, the new system brings a modern and sustainable transportation option to residents, students, and visitors alike. This launch builds on our strong partnership with SUMS, with whom we have already successfully deployed bikeshare systems in five other Romanian cities, including Sibiu and Dej.

The launch of Velo Târgu Mureș marks Lyft Urban Solutions’ sixth bikeshare project in Romania, further reinforcing our role as a leading bikeshare provider in the country. Across Europe, Lyft Urban Solutions now powers 18 bikeshare systems in five countries, including Santander Cycles in London, Bicing in Barcelona and C.vélo in Clermont-Ferrand.

A modern bikeshare system designed for everyday mobility

Designed to support a wide range of rider needs, Velo Târgu Mureș features a mixed fleet of mechanical and electric bikes, giving users the flexibility to choose the option that best fits their commute. The system also includes smart charging stations that automatically and quickly charge ebikes once docked, helping ensure continuous bike availability across the network.

By combining modern infrastructure with user-friendly technology, the system offers a flexible and convenient mobility option adapted to the realities of everyday urban travel.

Supporting the future of mobility in Târgu Mureș

With the launch of Velo Târgu Mureș, residents and visitors can now discover a new way to move through the city. As the city's first bikeshare system, supported by European Union funding, it represents an important step toward more sustainable, accessible, and connected urban mobility. The appetite for bikeshare across Romania is already strong: when Hunedoara launched its VeloCorvin system in 2024, it recorded more than 1,500 journeys and over 800 subscriptions within just two days of operation.
