Behind the Tech of Lyft’s Next-Generation Bikes with Zag Daily
“Riding this ebike will feel like riding an ebike for the first time.” That’s how big the leap is with our brand-new Lyft Astro ebike, as shared by Michael Frumin in his recent interview with Zag Daily. Backed by over half a decade of development and 185,000+ vehicles deployed worldwide, our latest model is designed to elevate the rider experience and streamline operations for cities and operators alike. In this conversation, Mike dives into the tech behind our bikes, from built-in rear-wheel immobilisation to real-time diagnostics, and what makes this new generation of vehicles so exciting.
When Transit is Disrupted, Bikeshare Keeps Rolling
Shared micromobility has proven to be an essential transportation option, not just a convenience, especially during strikes, shutdowns, and other transit service disruptions. According to the 2025 Lyft Multimodal Report, 37% of riders in Lyft’s U.S. operated-markets have used bikeshare when transit wasn’t available. This trend extends even outside the U.S. where in Montreal, BIXI users broke daily ridership records during the city’s recent transit strike.
BIXI expands to four more cities across Quebec!
BIXI is bringing its bikeshare solutions to even more riders across Quebec with successful launches in the cities of Sherbrooke, Saint‑Eustache, Deux‑Montagnes, and Saint‑Lambert. In total, 385 bikes — 70% of them electric — and 41 stations have been deployed across these new locations. These new launches bring the total number of cities with a BIXI system to 13. Congratulations BIXI!
