Bike Share Toronto announces program expansion
Lyft Urban Solutions will provide Bike Share Toronto with 1,850 new bikes and 160 new smart stations, including 300 electric E-FIT bikes for the project’s 6th phase.
The expansion plan for 2020 will double the existing bike sharing network coverage to give Torontonians a more convenient, sustainable and active way to cycle around the city. By the end of the rollout 6,850 Lyft Urban Solutions bikes will be on Toronto’s streets.
Today, Mayor John Tory and the Toronto Parking Authority announced the expansion of Bike Share Toronto’s network, both in coverage but also in the number of bikes and docking stations available. With the new additions deployed, the network will span across 200 square kilometres of the city, and 20 of its 25 boroughs.
Almost 10 years into its partnership with Lyft Urban Solutions, the program has enjoyed strong growth, increased ridership, and strong support across Toronto.
Amid COVID-19 and in the new reality of social distancing, city officials believe expanding to new neighborhoods will give more residents a safer, healthier micromobility solution.
